Both cuvees of 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape possess dense purple colors. The 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape offers a sweet, black-cherry/raspberry, licorice, and smoky-scented nose, lush, peppery, concentrated flavors, full body, and an expansive palate with no hard edges. It is an immensely seductive style of Chateauneuf du Pape for drinking during its first 10-12 years of life. They are both impressive, very fairly-priced wines.
This wine was tasted between June 1 and June 16, 1996.
The Gonnet brothers continue to produce the most underrated wines of Chateauneuf du Pape. The Gonnets, whose vineyards are well-placed in the crau section of the appellation, not far from Vieux-Telegraphe, keep prices modest, rarely seek publicity, and year after year turn out savory, rich wines.
