Though I was not impressed with Jean-Marie Guffens’s basic Macon-Pierreclos bottling, his 2004 Macon-Pierreclos Le Chavigne is outstanding. Its nose is quite Riesling-like, revealing soaring minerals immersed in linden with notes of petrol. Medium-bodied, broad, and silky-textured, it is fresh, pure, and displays a long, expressive finish. Drink it over the next 5 years.
