The estate’s 2006 Dolcetto d’Alba Bricco Boschis Vigna Scot is another terrific wine from this hillside vineyard in Castiglione Falletto. Masses of ripe dark fruit sweep across the palate, yet persistent notes of minerality give the wine a gorgeous sense of balance and proportion. In recent years the Vigna Scot has emerged as one of the most consistently successful and delicious Dolcettos around. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2011.
Cavallotto is best known for their superb Barolos, in particular the Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe, which in recent years has established itself as one of the region’s finest high-end bottlings. As outstanding as the top wines can be, readers should be sure to spend some time with the more modestly-priced wines, the best of which are every bit as enjoyable as their bigger siblings.
