One wine that I was able to identify due to its remarkably tannic, monolithic character (a signature of the vintage, whether in Burgundy or Bordeaux) was the 1926 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de la Mousse. Offering up aromas of sweet plums, dark chocolate, loamy soil and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and structured, with tangy acids and rich, powdery tannins that still make their presence felt on the finish almost a century after it was produced. This 1926 will see out its 100th birthday in style!
