Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru La Grand Montagne from Paul Pillot came across as very austere at first, much more malic than other Chassagne-Montrachets from the higher vineyards, detailed yet rather aloof. The palate is fresh on the entry with vibrant acidity, a touch of spiciness toward the second half and good vigor. This appears to open up, gain its voice during aeration, and I suspect that with bottle age it will turn into a very fine Chassagne.
