The 2009 Muscat Alexandria Jackass Hill is a gorgeous, exotic wine from 103-year-old head trained vines. White flowers, lychee, mango, mint, passion fruit and sweet spices are some of many aromas and flavors that are woven together in this expressive sweet wine. This is a fabulous effort. Frankly, I found it hard to spit! Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015.
Martinelli is one of the original pioneering families in Sonoma. I tasted a wide range of wines during a recent visit. The 2008 Syrahs, from a challenging vintage, are a bit up and down, but the rest of the wines are all outstanding. As always, these are fairly bold, extroverted wines, but their overall balance is typically superb.
