The 2009 Rosso di Montalcino is a gorgeous entry-level wine. Flowers, mint and tobacco add complexity to the layered fruit, while the focus shows considerable verve and minerality. This is a great achievement in 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017.
I would be hard-pressed to name another grower who has made such huge strides in recent years as has Andrea Cortonesi. The artisan tradition of Montalcino is alive and well in this small, no-frills winery, while the wines have never been better.
