Andrea Cortonesi, the former cellarmaster at Mastrojanni, owns some very fine vineyards near Castelnuovo dell’Abate. The style is international, but not excessively so, and is well exemplified by the 2001 Rosso di Montalcino. Ruby/garnet with ripe black cherry, plum, and tar aromas, its flavors are silky, round, but substantial, with good definition and depth. This is a high level wine for the category.
