For value, Charvin fashions a spicy, garrigue, peppery, cherry jam-scented and flavored Cotes du Rhone, of which the 1995 is a fine example. Although it possesses some robust tannin in the finish that is unlikely to melt away, this is a solidly made, exuberant wine to drink over the next 3-4 years. This small estate in the northern section of the appellation consists of only 20 acres, from which less than 3000 cases of high quality Chateauneuf du Pape emerge. The wine is often similar to Rayas because of its pure black raspberry/kirsch-scented nose and flavors, in addition to an impressive, expansive, chewy texture.Importer: Peter Weygandt, Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel (610) 932-2745
