The 2016 Barbaresco Angelo is the most elaborate and oak-forward of the three Barbaresco expressions presented by Albino Rocca this year. The wine opens to dark color saturation with blackberry, dried fruit and plum. You get extra layers of spice, smoke, tar and tilled earth as well. The wine is robust and full-bodied. It deserves to sit next to a nice cut of steak on the grill.

Cherry, kirsch and peony aromas and flavors are the main features of this delicate red. These themes are accented by tar, tobacco and underbrush notes, showing an underpinning of mineral as this builds to a long finish. Beautifully balanced, with a white pepper aftertaste. The 2016 Barbaresco Angelo is beautifully delineated and lifted. The purity of the fruit is compelling, but it is the wine’s total sense of harmony that elevates the Angelo in 2016. There is so much to look forward to.
