The new top of the range Mencía is sold as 2013 Homenaje. It's sourced from vines averaging 50 years of age on slate slopes that are very steep. They used 15% full clusters and indigenous yeasts. It matured in 225-liter French oak barrels for 21 months. I thought they had played a trick and poured a C?te de Nuits, as it really felt like a top Pinot Noir. It has the spices, the wild flowers, the small berries and a herbal touch, balsamic but fresh. It has superb intensity and focused, chiseled flavors and fine minerality. This is a truly elegant Ribeira Sacra, reminiscent of some vintages of El Pecado from Raul Pérez. Gobsmacking! 2,400 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2016.
