The 2008 Rosso di Montalcino is surprisingly substantial in this vintage. Dark cherries, plums, earthiness and tobacco flow from this somewhat burly yet engaging Rosso. In 2008 the Rosso is a touch rustic yet still represents a notable achievement for the year. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. When Andrea Costanti’s wines are on – as they are here – they are among the most enjoyable of the entire appellation. The slightly updated yet traditional style is immensely appealing.
