The long-fermenting and June, 2007-bottled 2005 Bacharacher Wolfshohle Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese has turned out sensationally. A Chartreuse-like aroma of herbal and floral elixir in the nose accompanied by hints of musk and white raisin is followed by fabulously rich and implosively-concentrated torrent of herbal, floral, and white peach essences shot through with invigorating citrus and saline minerality. This viscous, creamy, buttery, eszencia-like concentrate positively levitates in a finish not just hugely honeyed but wreathed in flowers and underlain by nut oils, caramel, and strikingly savory minerality. Nut-brittle like as well as intensely floral, peachy and honeyed aromas haunt the empty glass. As rich and as amazingly diverse and clearly differentiated in flavors as this is today, I dream of what it might become. If you acquire one of the 200 half-liter bottles, the question is not when it might decline in bottle but rather when you might decline past the point where you can properly appreciate it!
