The backward and rustic 1994 Red Mountain Reserve (a blend of 56% Merlot and 44% Cabernet Sauvignon) was tasted twice with consistent notes. It possesses a deep nose filled with currant, blackberry, plum, and cigar box scents. On the palate, this thick, full-bodied and tannic wine displays mocha, super-ripe black cherries, eucalyptus and mint flavors. It is a mouth-coating and powerful wine that demands a grilled porterhouse steak. It requires 5+ years of cellaring, and should be at its best between 2003-2009.Hedges, owned by Tom and Anne-Marie Hedges and a consortium of Swedish shareholders, is one of the rare wineries in Washington State to offer quality wines at $10 or less.Tel.
