The 2004 Sasso Bucato is Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon aged 16 months in French oak. The wine shows superior density in its sweet dark fruit, herbs and minerals, with outstanding persistence and a long, lingering finish. There is a beautiful sense of varietal expression married to a Tuscan personality of warmth that I find immensely appealing. Given the explosion of prices in Tuscany’s Maremma, this wine offers terrific value for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016.
