The 2005 Boca is subdued from the start and never fully picks up speed. The growing season persisted with ample sunshine and heat until September when badly timed rain showers provoked rot and mildew. In fact, you definitely taste a diluted quality of fruit. The harvest took place on October 10th. The wine is round and smooth with dried cherry, spice, tar and resin. However, the aromas are less pronounced and less complex overall. Compared to some of the beautiful wines presenting in this retrospective, this bottle lags behind.
