While Chateau de Lancyre’s 2001 regular bottlings were reported in 2003, the 2001 Pic St.-Loup–Coteaux du Languedoc Grande Cuvee was released this year. Its ripe black fruit-scented nose leads to a brooding, muscular personality densely packed with blackberries, road tar, herbs, spices, ink, and cassis. Highly concentrated and pure, this medium to full-bodied wine will require some patience for it to become more civilized. Projected maturity: 2006-2011.Incidentally, the 1998 Pic St.-Loup–Coteaux de Languedoc Vieilles Vignes was recently tasted. It has reached its plateau of maturity and is well-deserving of the 89 points it was attributed in Issue #127. It should be drunk over the next 2-3 years.Importer: Dan Kravitz - Hand Picked Selections, Warrenton, VA; tel. (540) 347-9400
