Tasted at the 60th anniversary tasting at Domaine d’Auvenay. The 1955 Romanée Saint Vivant Grand Cru has a beautiful bouquet, very elegant and precise with pure red cherries and strawberry, orange blossom and minerals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a slight graininess to the texture at the front of the mouth, very mineral as it gently fans out towards the finish. There is wonderful tension here as it gracefully fades toward the finish. Elegiac but compelling.
