The Nittardi 2007 Chianti Classico Casanuova di Nittardi has mostly reverted to tertiary (or aged) aromas, but not entirely. Within the context of this mini retrospective, this bottle from 2007 represents a new chapter in which the freshness of the Sangiovese fruit is replaced with earthy tones, clove, old spice and worn leather. However, a faded outline of the primary fruit, with dried cherry and plum, is still within reach. The tannins are softly folded within the wine's rich concentration, but the acidity shines bright. That freshness is remarkable. I think this well-built wine should safely hold up to the 20-year mark after the vintage.
