The 2008 Donna Lisa Bianco Messapia is a Malvasia partially fermented in oak with full malolactic fermentation. A gorgeous, rich wine, the Messapia shows off layers of ripe apricots, vanillin, mint, honey blossoms and spices. The creamy, expansive texture should allow the wine to pair beautifully with a wide range of foods. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.
These new releases from Leone de Castris are some of the finest wines I have ever tasted from this property. Consulting oenologist Riccardo Cotarella arrived in 2006 but only began making the wines from start to finish in 2008.
