The wines of Bertheau are consistently among the most traditionally made and rustic red burgundies from the Cote de Nuits. Never filtered, they tend to throw a heavy sediment, and thus will annoy technocrats. Bertheau's wines possess high quantities of the "brett" yeast, which generally means aromas of saddle leather and aged meat will be present. The 1991 Chambolle-Musigny-Premier Cru is a medium-bodied, elegant, light wine. When tasted side by side with the villages cuvee it appears less deep.
