The 2006 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Cairanne Cuvee Prestige (60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre) is a surprisingly sexy, opulent effort for this vintage (especially considering its high percentage of Mourvedre). Its deep ruby/blue/purple color is accompanied by notes of incense, black cherries, black currants, scorched earth, and spice box. Excellent sweetness, full body, a rich palate, and outstanding purity as well as length suggest this 2006 will age for 5-7 years. This outstanding estate has been making fine wines for nearly as long as I have been writing The Wine Advocate.Importers: Peter Weygandt, Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel.
