This wine, a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre made from a meager 25 hectoliters per hectare, is produced from several parcels planted in 1905. The wine offers outstanding intensity, peppery, leathery, sweet black cherry, and berry aromas, a layered, nicely textured, medium to full-bodied personality, moderate tannin, and outstanding purity. This effort may merit an even higher score with another six months of bottle age. It should drink well for 5-7 years. Even before my book on the Rhone Valley was published last year I had been touting the wines from this exceptional estate in the Cotes du Rhone village of Cairanne. The newest releases are impressive wines that should be sought out by Rhone Valley enthusiasts, as well as readers looking for wines with considerable personality and flavor.Importer: Vineyard Expressions, Ithaca, NY; tel.
