The top cuvee, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Solo (100% Cabernet Sauvignon), is a classic example of a Stags Leap offering. Elegant but substantial, with notes of spring flowers, blueberries, black currants, and subtle barrique, it cuts a broad swath across the palate, but is light on its feet. Firm and compact, with dried currant, anise, mineral and pencil lead notes that turn tight on the finish, with minerally tannins. Drink now through 2011. 1,446 cases made. -JL

This is 100% Cabernet, hence the name. It’s direct in its appeal, with cassis and new oak flavors that are wrapped into significant tannins. It’s a nice, rich wine, but not a great one. Despite every effort, the heat has taken its toll, making it overly soft and a little cooked. Drink now.
