The old style, traditionally-made, impressively-endowed 1996 Barolo Rocche exhibits a fragrant bouquet of chocolate, melted asphalt, soy, smoke, and white truffles. It is powerful, massive, moderately tannic, dense, and chewy, with considerable intensity. There are a few hard edges, and fans of the more modern style Barolo will feel it is rustic, but it is loaded with flavor and personality. I adored it. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2015. No known American importer.
