This set of wines (all 100% Tempranillo) from Cillar de Silos located in Ribera del Duero is impressive from top to bottom. The 2004 Altos de Revilla, a wine produced only in great years of which this is the first. It is a single vineyard selection from 60-year-old vines. The wine was barrel fermented and aged in 100% new French oak for 18 months. It offers a more complex nose than the Torresilos with notes of mocha and espresso, toasty oak, vanilla, blueberry and blackberry liqueur. It is more elegant but without the mid-palate concentration and finish. Nevertheless, it is an outstanding wine which will benefit from 2-4 years of further cellaring and should drink well for 8-10 years thereafter.
