Longtime readers remember my ecstatic praise of older vintages of Jaboulet's Chateauneuf du Pape Les Cedres (1967, 1966, 1961, 1957). In fact, the 1967, which remains one of the greatest Chateauneuf du Papes I have ever tasted (and it still offers fine drinking), was made 100% from juice purchased from Chateau La Nerthe, a fact I just learned when talking to Jacques Jaboulet, who had negotiated the deal to buy the 1967. The 1995 is an elegant, black-cherry-scented and flavored wine with medium body and attractive fruit, but it is not an exceptional example of Chateauneuf du Pape. A pretty wine, but it's no 1967!
This wine was tasted between June 1 and June 16, 1996.
