The 2009 Langhe Nebbiolo will more than satisfy any immediate cravings for those readers who are waiting for the Baroli to reach maturity. It is a striking wine laced with sweet red fruit, flowers, anise and fennel. The sweet inner perfume and firm yet well-integrated tannins are pure, classic Nebbiolo. Floral notes wrap around the finish. This is a jewel of a wine. Rinaldi’s Langhe Nebbiolo is made from Barolo-designated juice from Ravera. It is one of the best kept secrets in Piedmont. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019.
Giuseppe Rinaldi is the standard bearer for the traditional school of Barolo. Over the last few years Rinaldi’s wines have become more elegant, no doubt reflecting the increasing influence of Rinaldi’s daughter Marta. The 2007 Baroli are striking. They aren’t quite as profound as the 2006s, but that is perhaps asking too much. Readers who want to learn more about Rinaldi may want to check out my video on www.erobertparker.com.
