Deep garnet with a touch of brick, the 1999 Shiraz presents aromas of blackberry preserves, creme de cassis, warm plums and spice box with a subtle gamey, soy and oolong tea undercurrent. Full bodied, richly fruited and with a medium level of velvety tannins, it has crisp acidity and a long and spicy/meaty finish. Delicious now, it should continue to give pleasure to 2019+.
Catching-up with owner Brian Lynn recently, in addition to his current releases I tasted through verticals of Majella’s Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and The Malleea to track the evolution of the styles. The results go to show, it certainly pays to put a few bottles of these well constructed wines away.
Majella does not currently have a US importer.
