Deep garnet colored with a touch of brick, the 1998 Shiraz reveals an abundance of complex, evolving fruit aromas on the nose: mulberries, figs, dried cherries and tobacco over hints of black tea, leather and sandalwood. Medium to full bodied and densely laden with layers of mature fruit and savory flavors, it is nicely balanced with a medium level of velvety tannins and refreshing acid, finishing long and layered. Still possessing some primary fruit, though delicious right now, it should have more to give and drink to 2020+.
Catching-up with owner Brian Lynn recently, in addition to his current releases I tasted through verticals of Majella’s Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and The Malleea to track the evolution of the styles. The results go to show, it certainly pays to put a few bottles of these well constructed wines away.
Majella does not currently have a US importer.
