Lastly, the 2012 Berola is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French and American small oak barrels for ten months, and an additional 14 months in bottle prior to release. Loads of almost floral notes jump from the glass of this fragrant, deep ruby/purple wine. It is medium to full-bodied, showing good spice box, licorice, blackcurrants and black cherries. It is a sexy, seductive, luscious wine that should drink well for another 2-4 years.

(made from high-altitude bush vines): Opaque purple. Sexy, expansive black and blue fruit and spicecake aromas pick up woodsmoke and mocha nuances as the wine opens in the glass. Sweet mulberry and cassis flavors are nicely concentrated and lively thanks to a jolt of juicy acidity that contributes definition to the back half. Closes with slow-building tannins and very good persistence, leaving a hint of smokiness behind. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks this wine was aged for ten months in 60% French and 40% American oak.
