Sicily and Syrah make for one of my favorite vinous couples. The 2016 Monreale Syrah La Monaca is a full-bodied red wine that is piled high with ripe fruit, Morello cherry, smoked bacon, chocolate and tobacco. This is a fleshy, darkly concentrated red to pair with important meat dishes such as roast pork or lamb. It ages in barrique for 14 months. Some 17,000 bottles were made.
