Checking in as a blend of equal parts Grenache and Mourvèdre that’s raised primarily in stainless steel (20% in demi-muid) for 18 months, the 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape les Hesperides should be up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Medium to full-bodied, rounded, plush and nicely textured, it offers impressive notes of blueberries, plum, licorice and black raspberries. Possessing good, not great concentration, it has fabulous purity for a wine with such a high content of Mourvèdre, and should be approachable right from the gate.
