While I wasn’t able to taste the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hesperides showed beautifully. A blend of equal patrs Grenache and Mourvedre that spent 18 months in tank, it offers up a rich, full array of smoked meat, underbrush, pepper, damp earth and truffle that’s grounded by a core of sweet blackberry and kirsch-styled fruit. Medium-bodied, rich and gorgeously fruited, with a layered mid-palate and sweet tannin, it’s not something to hide in the cellar and is already reasonably approachable. Drink now-2021.
These superb efforts are made by Eric Bonnet from his estate located in the northeastern sector of Chateauneuf du Pape.
