As for the two vintages of Clos Pepe, the 2006 Pinot Noir has some subtle earthiness and smoked herbs intermixed with sweet cherries as well as hints of raspberry and strawberry. It is a sappy, crisp wine to drink over the next 3-4 years. Tel. (805) 649-1674

Dark and fairly big for a Pinot, almost Grenache-like in its weight and full-bodied mouthfeel. Tastes rich in cherry pie with the crust, blackberry jam, licorice, bacon, cola and black pepper. Dry and luscious, but a bit muscular now. Needs time, and should improve by 2012.——S.H.(9/1/2009)—— 92
