A voluptuous Grenache that over- delivers on texture and richness (especially given the vintage), the 2011 On the Road (100% Grenache aged 16 months in 50% new French oak) offers up sweet aromas and flavors of blackberry jam, raspberry, underbrush, licorice and hints of flowers. While a full-bodied, decadent effort, it has beautiful purity and is one of Russell’s more pure, elegant Grenaches. Enjoy it over the coming 4-5 years. Drink now-2018.
Russell From continues to release a bevy of smoking wines under his Herman Story label. His wines never lack for fruit or texture, yet to me, always stay beautifully balanced and downright thrilling to drink. In addition, these 2010s and 2011s are some of the more restrained efforts he’s released. Keep an open mind and check these wine out!
