The 2010 Algueira Pizarra is a pure Mencia vinified in exactly the same way as the previous wines. Here, there is an ebullient, pure black cherry, cranberry and blueberry jam-scented bouquet that is once again beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy, almost Cabernet Franc-like, bell pepper fruit. It has a very fine structure, a sense of symmetry, with a finely poised finish that is long and lingering, hints of dried orange peel and white pepper on the aftertaste. This is the kind of wine you want to elope with. Drink now-2017. Adega Algueira overlooks the River Sil from its lofty perch and uses fruit from its own vineyards: Mencia, Alvarello, Merenzao, and Caino for their reds, and Godello, Loureiro, Alvarino and Treixadura for the whites. Fernando Gonzalez Riveiro oversees a splendid portfolio that epitomizes the freshness and vitality that both the white and reds can offer.Importer: Antalva Import; www.antalva.com and Polaner Selections, Mt.
