The 2007 Barolo Garblet Sue’ is another stunning wine. This vineyard seldom yields wines without firm tannins and slightly angular contours, so the even warmth of the year is especially beneficial here. Smoke, tar, iron, roses and dark red fruit are woven together in a muscular, virile style that is striking. The finish shows fabulous intensity, drive and focus, virtually covering the tannins. It is simply dazzling. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2032.
Brovia’s 2007 Baroli are just as impressive from bottle as they were when I tasted them from barrel late last year. The straight Barolo is always the last to be bottled. I will report on that wine as soon as I have had a chance to taste it.
