The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino offers up sweet ripe fruit, toasted oak, licorice, leather, spices and roasted coffee beans in a soft-textured, expansive style. The finish is long, sweet and refined. The wine possesses plenty of richness and depth, yet the flavors are also somewhat forward, which leads me to believe this won’t be one of the vintage’s most long-lived Brunellos. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2019.
