The 2014 Saint Aubin 1er Cru Les Castets is a new addition to the roster at Marc Colin. It was previously planted with Pinot Noir but these were grubbed up seven years ago and replanted with Chardonnay more suitable to its limestone soils. It has a flinty nose with just a touch of smoke, perhaps not bestowed with a great amount of vigor given that the vines are but three-years-old. The palate is citrus fresh on the entry with a fine line of acidity. Sour lemon mixes with orange rind and hazelnut, gently building but never fully letting go on the controlled finish. Enjoyable if not profound, drink this over the next 5-7 years. Just four barrels form this debut.
