Vernatsch is the German name for the Schiava grape that is so widely loved and consumed locally in Alto Adige. The 2018 Alto Adige Vernatsch Missianer opens to a light ruby appearance and bitter flavors of mountain fruit or forest berry. There are pretty medicinal or balsam herb highlights that give more dimension and depth to this light, easy-drinking red. When you want a wine that won't overpower your food, the Schiava grape is an excellent choice. Production is 60,000 bottles strong.
