The 2016 Santenay 1er Cru Les Gravières, which did not need to be chaptalized, was the richest and most opulent of the three Santenay premier crus that I tasted at the domaine, though it did not quite possess the detail and precision of the Beaurepaire. The palate is a little chewy on the entry, finely detailed, structured and masculine, although I discern a little more persistence and finesse on the other two Santenays. Still, there is plenty of matière within this wine, and it certainly deserves a couple of years in the cellar before broaching.
