Giuseppe Rinaldi, though still a young man, is an unreconstructed traditionalist when it comes to his wines. Hardly a surprise – his is one of the old and distinguished families of Barolo and, in a certain sense, the tradition which exists was created by his ancestors. He is pleased, but hardly ecstatic about the 2000 vintage, yet his 2000 Barolo Cannubi Ravera is a worthy effort. The rose petal, mint, and truffle nose is followed by a round and earthy palate, a supple texture for a Barolo from this house, and a rising intensity on the finish. Drink: 2006-2015.
