The 2004 Cabernet / Merlot offers a medium garnet color and pretty notes of kirsch, red currant jelly and black cherry preserves with hints of violets and dried thyme. Still very youthful in the medium-bodied mouth, with just the slightest touch of evolution, it has good concentration, firm tannins, lively acid and a long finish. Drink it now to 2020+.
The Te Motu vineyard is just a stone’s throw from Stonyridge, first planted in 1989 by the Dunleavy family. The property was sold a few years ago to a large corporation, but was very recently purchased back with the Dunleavy family once again being major shareholders. Planted predominately to Cabernet Sauvignon, this variety is the backbone of the flagship wine: Cabernet / Merlot.
