Sourced from vines over 100 years of age, the 2006 Gorys Crespiello was aged for 24 months in a mix of new and used French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple in color, it offers up a brooding bouquet of mineral, tar, scorched earth, blackberry, and licorice. Quite tannic on the palate but with exceptional concentration and depth of fruit, this savory, unique effort demands 6-8 years of additional cellaring. It appears to be in balance so that in a decade my rating could prove to be conservative. Bodegas Bioenos specializes in the indigenous grape Crespiello, so rare that even The Oxford Companion to Wine does not have an entry for it.Importer: Tom George, Frontier Wines, Dover, NJ; tel.
