The 2009 Catania Tinto Crianza comes from 50-year-old organically grown vines and is aged in new and used American and French oak. It has a tightly wound bouquet of licorice-tinged black fruit that opens in the glass. The palate is full-bodied with svelte supple tannins, a seam of candied orange peel and a lovely, plush, quite exotic finish that retains balance and poise. This is a well-crafted Crianza. Drink now-2018.
Bodegas Gormaz was originally a co-operative that was privatized in 2004. There are 400 members currently under the management of the bodegas, with most of their vines located in Soria, with a small amount in Dominio de Atauta, including pockets of old and ungrafted vines.
