The 2007 Rutherford Vineyard Pinot Noir has a dense, plum and liquorices-scented nose, moderate definition but it lacks some joie-de-vivre. Again, there is a touch of shoe-polish. Sweet entry, saturated tannins, black cherry, plum, a touch of spice and it finishes better than expected. Fine. Villa Maria continues to serve as the great ambassadors to New Zealand wine, appealing to both supermarket consumers and connoisseurs.Importer: Vineyard Brands Inc., Birmingham, AL; (205) 980-8802
