Tscharke’s 2009 Girl Talk Savagnin is medium straw-colored with aromas of mineral, lemon-lime, and honeydew. Crisp and lively on the palate but without much depth, it will pair well with raw oysters over the next 1-2 years. What was once thought to be Albarino that was propagated from suitcase cuttings from Galicia turned out to be an obscure grape from the Jura region of France called Savagnin. Unfortunately, this was not discovered until the vines were into production and examined by a viticulturalist. Savagnin does not quite have the sex appeal of Albarino but it still makes good wine.Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel. (805) 782-9095
