The organic Torre dei Beati 2019 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Cocciapazza has a punchy and bright quality of fruit with lots of sweet cherry and candied blueberry. This is unlike many of the other Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wines on the market today thanks to that extra ping of energy that shines from the bouquet. You do get more oak sensations in the mouth, however, with special emphasis on cinnamon and nutmeg. Using the pergola abruzzese system, these vines were planted in 1972 over nine hectares. Some 12,000 bottles were made.

The Torre dei Beati 2015 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Cocciapazza offers an elaborate performance and generally asks more of the Montepulciano grape, pushing its boundaries further than most peers. The name Cocciapazza means "hot head" or "crazy head" in the local dialect and is the name of the contrada in Loreto Aprutino where this winery is located. This wine sees fruit sourced from a two-hectare parcel, but the estate farms a total of 14 hectares that were planted in 1972. Cocciapazza opens to a darkly saturated color with plummy aromas of dark fruit, tobacco and moist earth. This wine ages in barrique for 20 months and is a good match for roasted lamb with mint jelly. Some 10,000 bottles were released.

Rich and aromatic, this medium- to full-bodied red offers creamy, well-knit tannins. Savory accents of game and smoky charred toast lace the baked black currant, dried thyme and melted licorice flavors. Features a long, spiced finish. Torre dei Beati's 2012 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Cocciapazza is the estate's star achievement. This is a visceral, articulate wine with dark fruit, lavish spice, tobacco, pressed rose petal and grilled herb. Cocciapazza offers loads of power and intensity with dark richness and firm structure. It shows impressive textural consistency.
