Offering a bold, juicy nose, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Kingpin rockets out of the glass with aromas of graham cracker, spiced cherry pie and blackberry reduction with a delightful array of oak spices and dusty florals. Full-bodied, the palate is delineated with a ripe and juicy expression that sways with energetic acidity and succulent tannins. Ending with a long, lingering and ever-evolving finish, persistent flavors of crème de cassis, graphite and pencil shavings linger on the aftertaste. Just over 4,500 bottles were filled with this delightful and food-friendly wine that will have no problem aging until its 10th birthday. Give it a try!

Made with the addition of 7% Petit Verdot, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Kingpin begins with a dark berry expression with aromas of macerating blackberries, blueberries and cherries. Medium to full-bodied, the wine offers elements of spicy black raspberry compote with lingering flavors of dusty plum and bitter dark chocolate on the delightfully elongated finish.

A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Kingpin has sweet red fruit on the nose—black cherry and black plum—with spices and flowers. The wine is ripe on the palate, with a plummy and fresh edge that evolves into a black peppercorn expression with raspberry compote. This is open and ready to drink, showing a bold, juicy finish with just enough complexity. 337 cases made.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Kingpin offers up a sweet, oak-inflected bouquet of black fruits, pencil shavings and vanilla pod. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, juicy and chewy, with a nice core of fruit but somewhat firm, drying tannins that assert themselves on the finish. Whether they're derived from oak barrels or from the skins and seeds, I'm not sure, but their absence would make for a better balanced wine.

I loved the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Kingpin, which incorporates 6% Petit Verdot. Rounded, textured and medium to full-bodied, its deep ruby/purple color is followed by outstanding notes of crème de cassis, sweet oak, licorice and hints of charred earth. Balanced, nicely concentrated and with plenty of length on the finish, it should drink nicely for at least a decade.
